Public Works Operator

Department: Public Works
Reports To: Superintendent of Public Works
Position Summary: Responsible for inspecting and performing semi-skilled and skilled operations, maintenance, and repair activities in and on public works facilities and equipment in area of assignment.

Water/Sewer Operator

Department:  Public Works
Reports To: Superintendent of Public Works
Position Summary:   Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: inspecting, sampling, maintenance, and repair activities in and on public works facilities and equipment in the water collection and water distribution system; repairing underground water and sanitary sewer facilities, mains, laterals and service connections, including excavation practices and safety requirements.

Requirements: Class B CDL; training assistance offered to obtain CDL.

Police Officer

Department: Police Department
Reports To: Sergeant
Position Summary: Responsible for patrolling the streets of Watford City and enforcing laws and city ordinances.Normally consisting of providing crime prevention and repression; performing criminal investigations; performing regulation of non-criminal activity; performing routine vehicle inspection of patrol unit on each shift; performing community service activities; responding to emergency situations and assisting in rescue operations; serving as tactical entry team member; and participating in training.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (G.E.D.), or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Bachelor degree preferred. Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Academy. State Peace Officer’s License. Firearm Certification. Valid North Dakota Driver’s License. Radar Certification may be required.

Detective

Department: Police Department
Reports To: Assistant Chief of Police
Position Summary: Record the progress of investigations, maintain the informational files on suspects, and submit reports to obtain warrant. Prepare charges or responses to charges and prepare information for Court case. Obtain facts or statements from complainants, witnesses, and accused person.Conduct crime scene investigations to gather, preserve, identify, and evaluate physical evidence. Process and analyze items of evidence obtained from crime scenes and suspect. Coordinate with outside agencies and promote Law Enforcement cooperation.

Requirements: An Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in Law Enforcement; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Electrician

Department:  Public Works
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Public Works
Position Summary: Requires the ability to perform skilled work involving installing, trouble shooting, repairing and maintaining electrical components in the facilities of the City. Following regulations and procedures for safe, efficient, and thorough electrical installation and maintenance.  Duties require skilled technical examinations and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work.

Requirements/Knowledge/Abilities:   Buildings systems (i.e. mechanical, electrical, plumbing, ventilation, HVAC etc.) with corresponding knowledge in correct maintenance procedures.  AC and DC mechanical and electrical devices and systems. Department of Transportation Traffic and Safety Zone Set Up Standards. Ability to lead fellow crew members in safe work practices while conducting street light roads and streets.
